Built in the beginning of the 1980’s on the Fontvieille landfill (22 hectares of land recuperated from the sea), and inaugurated by SAS Prince Rainier III on January 25, 1985, the Louis II Stadium is a gigantic complex of 30,000 m ² including :
· an open air stadium (athletics and football)
· Athletic facilities used for sporting activities and events
· A 1,700 capacity, 4 floored parking garage
· A complex of office space surrounding the stadium.
Construction required:
· 120.000 m3 of concrete
· 9.000 tons of iron
· 2.000 tons of metal reinforcing
The architecture of the building was conceived to meet the needs of all of the different users in harmony with a traditional Southern Mediterranean atmosphere.
Louis II Stadium offers 3 major areas for receiving sportsmen and spectators:
· The outdoor football and athletics stadium
· An omnisport gymnasium
· A swimming and diving center
ATHLETICS
The athletics track, 400 metres, 8 lanes was created using CONIPUR M – CONICA installed by Conica technik AG, and is certified IAAF CLASS 1
