Under a hot and humid weather favorable to great performances, Herculis Monaco experienced this year an exceptional evening, enlightened by 7 world lead performances of the year.
Facts which need to be mentioned have to be credited to Tyson Gay, sparkling winner of the 200m Men that he dominated from the beginning to the end to establish a new stadium record in 19.72sec, Silas Kiplagat who revealed himself to the world thanks to his victory in 3:29.27 on the 1500m Men, personal best and world lead, and finally Carmelita Jeter, authoritative winner of the 100m Women ahead of Veronica Campbell-Brown.
Faithful to its reputation of “talent scout”, like Bernard Lagat would attest after his 1500m, Herculis Monaco allowed other athletes to come to light thanks to its perfect climatic conditions and to the unconditional support of its audience. That’s why we find among the world best performances of the night the American Alysia Johnson on 800m Women in 1.57.34, the Jamaican Jermaine Gonzales on 400m Men in 44.40 and the Ethiopian Sentayehu Ejigu in 8:28.41 on 3000m Women.
But Herculis Monaco also lets an opportunity to champions to confirm their status. Therefore the following indoor or outdoor World Champions established world lead performances as well: Yargelis Savigne 15.09m on triple jump Women, Dwight Phillips 8.46m on Men long jump and Ivan Ukhov 2.34m at the Men High Jump.
And in the other brilliant performances made this Thursday July 22nd at Louis II Stadium, David Oliver set a new stadium record of 13.01 on 110m Hurdles men, while LoLo Jones on 100m Hurdles Women, Kaki on 800m Men, Jackson on 400m Hurdles Men, Spotakova at the Women javelin, Ostapchuk at the Women shot put, Kanter at the discus Men, Murer at the pole vault Women and Spencer on the 400m Hurdles Women all won in their respective events.
We give you “rendez-vous” in exactly one year on Friday July 22nd 2011 for the 25th edition of the meeting Herculis Monaco!
